Kayak Rentals & Guided Tours

Kayaking the waters around Park City is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Destination Sports has been offering kayak tours and kayak rentals for over 15 years. Our one- and two-person inflatable kayaks are easy to master with just a little instruction, and then off you go. If you opt for a kayak tour with us, we will be floating the Weber River. We guarantee a fun and wet time for all. Kayak rentals, tours, and private lessons are available to all persons ages 12 years and older.

River Kayaking

We offer well-maintained equipment, easy instruction, and a wide variety of kayak tours ranging from half-day to full-day trips. We also offer combo trips that include fly fishinghorseback riding, mountain biking, or golf.  Guided river kayak trips are appropriate for people with intermediate river kayaking skills or better.

If you do not meet the minimum skills requirement, then a private river kayaking lesson is in order.  Our private river kayaking lessons last for 1 - 3 hours and will be customized to fit your skill level and expectations.

For safety and comfort during casual river kayaking, we use and recommend inflatable kayaks (a.k.a. I.K.'s or duckies) that are whitewater rated.  For your selection, we offer a variety of makes and styles of inflatable kayaks, including Aire, Tributary and Vanguard.

Private Kayaking Lessons

COST: $200 per person

DURRATION: 2-3 hours

INCLUDES: Inflatable kayak, helmet, PFD, Paddle, river shuttle, and expert instruction

LEVEL: Beginners

Our private kayaking lessons will be customized for you. Depending on your prior experience, or lack thereof, we may opt to start you out on a nearby reservoir with still water so that you may become comfortable with the dynamics of controlling and moving your kayak through the water.  If you have kayaked on lakes or oceans before and are comfortable with your ability to take effective and strong paddle strokes, then you're probably ready to hit the Weeb! (the Weber River)

The Weber River is a great first river kayaking experience.  There are calm stretches, thrilling and more technical bouldery runs, and fun class II and lower class III rapids.  You do not need to learn to roll to use our inflatable kayaks.  If your boat flips, you just fall out of the boat.  Climb back on to the kayak and continue paddling your merry way down the river.

Enthusiasm and the willingness to keep on paddling are the key factors to success for river kayaking, well, that and a certain physical strength and stamina.  If you are not sure if you meet this requirement, give us a call and we'll chat about it to help you determine if river kayaking is for you.

RIVER SHUTTLE: We offer river shuttle between our base camp in Henefer and Taggart for $5 per person per trip, or a minimum of $20 per trip.

If you are renting a kayak and heading off on your own, there are plenty of options available for a great day on the water. Aside from the popular Hen-Tag stretch of the Weber River, plus access to several more miles of private river reach, there is also the Provo River, as well as several reservoirs in the area. For instance, Jordanelle State Park has the largest lake in the region. If you are feeling more adventurous, head up into the Uinta Mountains to Mirror Lake. There are a few other smaller lakes along the road there, and all provide an excellent opportunity to kayak close to nature.

It's all yours for the day. Individual rentals are suggested for the outdoor-type individual who prefers to challenge whitewater and technical river sections on their own. These rentals are appropriate for people with intermediate kayaking skills or better.

For the ultimate full-day outdoor adventure, combine river kayaking with mountain bike riding, hiking, fly fishinghorseback riding or golf.  Between the two activities, you will enjoy a mouth-watering catered lunch at our private riverside picnic area.  Check out our Combo Trips page for package options.
